Los Angeles - Residents of the Mexican village of Cupilco, in the southern state of Tabasco, claim a statue of the Virgin Mary in their parish church is weeping and has moved its hands. They say the latest miracle occurred following the 7.1 quake which shook Mexico City and claimed 361 lives.
Locals say the statue is God's way of making people aware.
Several miracles have been credited to Our Lady, and locals hope they will experience a miracle. One woman, Lucia Torres Jiminez, said she became healthy after asking for the intercession of Mary. She said this of Mary, "She is feeling what is happening in Mexico, she is feeling what is going to happen."
So far, the Church has not investigated the claims of issued any statement on them. Miracles occur all the time in the Church, and they often involve Mary, or her statues. Locals say the statue of Mary has wept previously over the past three years, but their priest has asked them to keep the story quiet, to avoid drawing attention to their parish.
