Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The municipal government is encouraging sports activity, and consequently health, in the Puerto Vallarta school community through the "Recreation and Health" program which last week, with the support of private initiatives, delivered packages of balls and other sporting equipment to 30 primary and secondary schools.
The secretary general of the City Council, Víctor Bernal Vargas, explained that following the instructions of Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña, local schools are supported to the extent possible through different municipal programs, although their support is not the responsibility of the municipality.
The deputy director of Municipal Education, Norma Joya Carrillo, said that the current administration is still relying on the private sector to get this work done. In this case, Act II Entertainment and architect Jorge Rodríguez Bernal donated the resources to acquire the 30 sports packages that were delivered to the same number of schools in the municipality on Tuesday.
In the ceremony, held at the General Secondary School No. 105 in the La Trinidad neighborhood of El Pitillal, the sports packages, which consisted of soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, volleyball nets, rings and cones, were presented to representatives of the different schools.
Rubén Romero Ruvalcaba, the director of the 105th High School, thanked the donors on behalf of the beneficiaries for the delivery of the educational activity equipment, saying that it will help to promote sports, healthy coexistence and respect among students.
"On behalf of the school community, I give the most sincere thanks and recognition to municipal president Arturo Dávalos Peña for all of the support he has given this school: tree pruning and bench painting, electrical installations and air conditioner maintenance, street leveling and the timely collection of garbage, burgular alarms, and even a computer and chairs," he added.
