Mexico City - Mexico is a fast-moving energy market, and solar is no exception. While the nation has been growing as one of the leading markets in Latin America for rooftop solar, renewable energy kicked into high gear when a system of renewable energy credits was created as part of Mexico's far-reaching energy reform last year.

This has led to a boom in utility-scale solar, and Mexico has set a new benchmark for the sector by beginning construction of a 754 MW solar project in the state of Coahuila, which when complete will be the largest single-site solar plant in the Western Hemisphere.

And yet, the nation has had no solar-specific trade show. That is, until now.

Deutsche Messe, Solar Power Events and Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA) are three of the biggest names in trade shows globally, as organizers or co-organizers of Hannover Messe, the world's largest industrial fair, Solar Power International, the most well-attended solar trade show in the United States, and SNEC, the world's biggest solar trade show in Shanghai.

These three organizations have joined forces to launch 'Solar Power Mexico,' a new event dedicated to Mexico's solar market.

The first Solar Power Mexico will take place March 19-21, 2019 at Citibanamex Center in Mexico City. The 54,000 square foot exhibition space is expected to attract at least 1,000 exhibitors, to take advantage of the rapid growth in this dynamic market.

In a conversation with pv magazine, Benjamin Low, the global director of energy at Hannover Messe, said that the event was conceived for a wide audience. "It will surely be a trade fair with high level conferences with international and Mexican speakers, but also a fair open to the general public, with informative conferences," explained Low. "Clearly, it will also be a platform that will allow market operators to contact each other."

The organizers also expect that the fair will have more than 5,000 visitors, although they would not be surprised "if the number were much higher, as Mexico City is such a big city."

"We have the feeling that it is the right moment to launch the fair, because what is happening in the Mexican energy market, which has recently been liberalized, requires a greater focus on solar energy," Low concluded.
