Los Mochis, Sinaloa - The TagStation-owned NextRadio app has broadened the options available to its users in Mexico. In an announcement made in the Sinaloan city of Los Mochis, the Emmis Communications subsidiary revealed that FM radio streaming capabilities via NextRadio are now available across all smartphones in Mexico.
This means that an iOS version for iPhone mobile device users in the nation is now available in a similar fashion to iPhone owners in the U.S.
For Android users, it is an added feature that goes beyond the utilization of an enabled FM chip inside select devices used to tune to every local FM radio station.
"We're thrilled that NextRadio is now available for use on both iOS and Android devices in Mexico," said TagStation President Paul Brenner.
"We want to empower all users to enjoy local FM radio without having their content restricted by geographic location or choice of device."
TagStation adds that NextRadio "is still committed to unlocking the FM Chip in all phones but wanted to offer consumers the choice to listen to live local radio on any phone. NextRadio developed a streaming version until this goal becomes a reality."
The lack of an active FM chip in the iPhone presence, or its very presence, has been the subject of much debate and discussion across the industry. It is supported by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai.
