Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Expedia.com, the world's leading online travel site, conducted a survey of more than 1000 Mexican nationals last week, and when asked about their Semana Santa travel plans, Puerto Vallarta came in as the second most sought-after beach destination for the upcoming 2 week-vacation period.
According to the "Best and Cheapest Destinations for Holy Week" poll results, first place goes to Cancun, Quintana Roo, with 28%. However, Puerto Vallarta positioned itself in second place with 16%, overtaking the Riviera Maya (15%).
Other favorites for national travelers are Tulum (12%), Cabo San Lucas (10%), Acapulco (8%) and Playa del Carmen (7%).
This same poll also revealed how important cost planning is for national tourists when thinking about vacationing. 40% of people polled noted price is the imperative factor when choosing where to travel.
Despite the fact that the cities considered cheapest by the public were Guadalajara, Toluca, Ciudad del Carmen, Veracruz, Puebla, Ciudad de México, Monterrey, León, Tampico and Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta remains a favorite vacation destination.
According to Expedia, last year, the average price of the ticket during the spring was $6,742 pesos and travelers who booked their flights six days in advance saved 13 percent. Booking six days or less before a trip can lower your room costs by more than 15 percent.
In addition, average daily hotel rates were $2,117 in March and April last year, so there's potential for significant savings if you're willing to wait. Finally, according to the Expedia Forecast of travel prices for 2019, the best hotel offers are made on Friday of each week.
