Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Almost 5 years after Grupo Vidanta announced their plans to build a Cirque du Soleil theme park in the Banderas Bay area, the luxury Mexico resort developer has announced that the project's scope has been expanded and rebranded as "The Parks at Nuevo Vallarta."
Originally set to open in 2018 and centered around the Cirque du Soleil show, 'Luzia: A Waking Dream of Mexico,' with the promise that visitors would be "literally surrounded by Cirque artists and attractions," the plans have now been redesigned to include several amusement park concepts, with only one section dedicated to the Cirque de Soleil brand.
On June 7, 2019, Grupo Vidanta issued a statement about their new plans for the recreational area. It reads as follows:
As a continuation of our longstanding partnership with Cirque du Soleil, we are thrilled that a section of one of these concepts will be dedicated to their creative genius. The enhanced vision for The Parks is already underway with construction on many of its innovations currently in progress, as can be seen at the site in Nuevo Vallarta.
As the project continues to advance, more details about this groundbreaking entertainment destination, including specifics about the expanded master plan, will be shared. To learn more about the ongoing projects and initiatives [at our Mexico resorts], please visit grupovidanta.com."
Upon following their suggestion and visiting Vidanta's website to learn more about the "The Parks at Nuevo Vallarta" project, the scant information we found was buried amongst blurbs for attractions at their other Mexico Resorts. It reads as follows:
"BEYOND THE IMAGINATION: THE PARKS
In the coming years, Vidanta will debut The Parks, a culture-shifting new approach to family vacationing. This series of immersive entertainment parks will fuse luxury with imagination, creating a fantastical world where adventures leap to life. The Parks will feature never-before-seen attractions and groundbreaking experiential adventures, all planned, designed, and executed by the most accomplished experts in the field."
Sadly, this is all the information we have on the project at this time. Updates will be posted as additional details are released.
