The Best Golfing in Vallarta While Puerto Vallarta is best known for white sand beaches, tropical weather and unforgettable weddings, one of its most striking assets is the wide range of golf courses found here. With a large handful of world-class golfing facilities in the Banderas Bay area, and three exclusive golf resorts just a few hours' drive south, Puerto Vallarta is quickly becoming one of Mexico's leading golf destinations.
The El Tigre (The Tiger) golf course was designed by highly respected Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril of the Texas firm of Robert von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, creators of several or the world's top-ranked courses. The par-72 championship PGA-rated course plays to 7,200 yards and features several lakes, a meandering creek and diabolically placed bunkers and swales, framed by the Sierra Madre Mountains in the distance. Spread across 478 acres, the Vista Vallarta Club de Golf encompasses two 18-hole, par 72 championship golf courses: the first is a Signature Golf Course Design by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, and the neighboring course is a Signature Course Design by golf great Tom Weiskopf. Grassy hillsides, dense forest of palm, giant ficus trees and natural creeks provide the setting for these world-class golf courses. Marina Vallarta Golf Club is Puerto Vallarta golf at its finest. Replete with jungle foliage, lagoons, iguanas, tropical birds, and a strong golf course designed by famed American golf course architect Joe Finger, it was the first of what is currently 7 professional courses in Puerto Vallarta. The course opened in 1989, and is located in the heart of Marina Vallarta, within walking distance from several of the finest hotels in Puerto Vallarta. |
