Protect Your Chest and Breasts

The bustline is delicate and easily damaged.
As the temperature goes up, necklines come down. Tank tops, sundresses and bikinis are fun to wear in the hot summer weather, but they expose a lady's normally covered chestline to serious sun damage.

The chest and breasts are sensitive areas that are more susceptible to scarring and bumps than other parts of the body. Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, a professor of dermatology at the University of Miami, came to "Good Morning America" to offer some tips on how to protect the bustline.

1. Use Mederma scar gel to help get rid of scars on your chest, which tends to scar more easily. Mederma is a colorless and odorless gel that when used three times a day will lessen scars or bumps you may have from any type of pimple, bite, or even surgery on your chest.

2. Instead of using lasers and peels to get rid of brown age spots and red flushes, dermatologists rely heavily on the IPL machine for chest rejuvenation. This intense pulse light treatment is best done three to six times for dramatic clearing.

3. Aldara cream is a prescription medicine that is applied three times a week for a month to the chest. Like the IPL procedure, after the first cycle, you can restart it for an average of three full courses. The cream removes all the precancerous changes and also leaves the chest skin younger looking.

4. Some women struggle with hair growth on their breasts. Although Ciraldo said that this is just a variant of normal, it is embarrassing for many women. Ciraldo said that Vaniqa cream is a prescription hair removal cream that, with continued use, makes hair stop growing.

5. The chest is also susceptible to breakouts, especially if you exercise frequently. Ciraldo recommends Nicomide-T cream and gel, which is an over-the-counter medication. In clinical testing it was proved just as effective as prescription topical antibiotics in clearing breakouts. Use the cream or gel twice a day. The cream also has an SPF 30 sunscreen in it.
