The IMSS gave instructions for the girl to receive medical attention for the rest of her pregnancy.
Oaxaca City - A 10-year- old girl who is seven months pregnant as the result of rape sought help in receiving medical care, health authorities in the southern state of Oaxaca said.

Seven months ago the girl was raped by Noé Velásquez, 65, the owner of the house her parents rented in the community of Santiago Etla, some 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Oaxaca City, the local office of the national health care network (IMSS) said Wednesday in a statement.

The IMSS´ Luciano Galicia said Alfredo Martínez, the father of the girl, said that while he and his wife were at work, Velásquez sexually abused their daughter when she was home alone.

He said the rapist threatened the child for a long time not to say anything or he would kill her.

Martínez said he and his wife noted their daughter´s pregnancy three months after the rape.

"We noticed it after three months, because of her age we hadn´t noted anything, but our doubts were raised after she fainted at school, and that was when we realized," said the father, adding that he and the girl´s mother, Eugenia Santiago Ortiz, decided she should have the baby. The alleged rapist has been arrested.

Galicia of the IMSS gave instructions for the girl to receive medical attention for the rest of her pregnancy, adding that based on an ultrasound test she would undergo a Caesarean because the pregnancy and the subsequent birth were classified as high risk.
