US Attack on Tijuana "Unacceptable"

Foreign Ministry |  |  | | | Mexico City - The Mexican Foreign Ministry declared on Friday that the US Border Patrol's aggression in Tijuana in Baja California was unacceptable.
 The use of tear gas and several explosives was repeatedly denounced by residents of the border city and the National Human Rights Commission recently condemned the incidents.
 The Foreign Ministry note pointed out that such actions do not contribute whatsoever to an atmosphere of constructive understanding and collaboration, which should prevail for the two countries to confront border violence.
 It recalled that on January 11, in the wake of the use of tear gas against the Colonia Libertad neighborhood in Tijuana by Border Patrol forces, the Foreign Ministry conveyed the Mexican government's strong rejection.
 It also ordered its Consulate in San Diego and the Mexican Embassy in the Washington to convey the Mexican Executive's concern and reiterate the need to launch preventive actions instead of launching projectiles.
 The Foreign Ministry also sent a diplomatic note to the US Embassy in Mexico, requesting a thorough investigation of the aggression within Mexican territory, during which a minor was wounded.
 In view of the reiteration of incidents of cross-border violence in populated areas of Tijuana, the Foreign Ministry sent a diplomatic note to the US Embassy on January 15. |
