"Extreme Poverty Must Become a Thing of the Past": Felipe Calderón

 |  | There is no point in the country's having so much wealth if extreme poverty is people's only future. - President Felipe Calderón |  |  | | | Santiago Tamazola, Oaxaca - President Felipe Calderón stated that extreme poverty in Mexico must disappear, which is why he considered that every effort must be made to ensure that more and more people overcome this condition.
 He declared that this can only be achieved if the doors to health, education and decent housing are opened, because, "There is no point in the country's having so much wealth if extreme poverty is people's only future."
 The President inaugurated the Basic Community Hospital in this municipality and implemented 21 health centers n the Mixtec region, where he said that, "We are on the right track to overcoming poverty as regards health."
 President Calderón told Governor of Oaxaca Ulises Ruiz Ortiz and Secretary of Health José Ángel Córdova Villalobos that throughout Oaxaca's history, only 17 hospitals had been built, 10 of which had been constructed during his administration and it is hoped that by the end of this administration, 50 medical units and hospitals will have been built in this state, regarded as one of the poorest nationwide.
 He added that $1.2 billion pesos have been assigned to Oaxaca for Popular Insurance, which has tripled the budget for this state.
 President Calderón declared that work is being carried out irrespective of parties and ideologies, because regardless of the government, what matters is the condition of the children and people living in extreme poverty. |
