President Calderón Assures Media Owners and Directors of His Continued Commitment to Freedom of Expression

During the meeting, the president repeated his government’s firm commitment to defending freedom of expression and the free exercise of journalism.
 
Mexico City - Mexican President Felipe Calderón held a working meeting this week at the official Los Pinos residence with Mexican media owners and directors.

During the meeting, the president repeated his government’s firm commitment to defending freedom of expression and the free exercise of journalism.

They exchanged points of view on security in Mexico and discussed the important role the media play in liaising between society and government.

They agreed over the importance of reinforcing social campaigns in the area of security, particularly those designed to encourage the culture of legality, in order to emphasize the positive results of obeying the law, transparency and denouncing crime.

They also discussed the need to increase contents that will encourage the prevention and treatment of addictions among young people, and demonstrate the benefits of neighborhood organizations in implementing measures that will help create safe environments and publicize the various institutional channels through which society can report crime.
