Brenda Martin Ungrateful Victoria Macintosh Frankford - Intelligencer go to original
| Brenda Martin with her friend Deborah Tileman. (Canadian Press/Fred Chartrand) | | Re: Martin leaving Trenton
I felt sorry for Brice McVicar and appalled by Ms. Martin's choice of words. She described her stay in Trenton as "quite boring". Why not reflective?
Insightful? Enjoying the company of her mother or in appreciation of the everyday things she use to take for granted? I wouldn't trade any of it for time spent in that Mexican prison.
Then that final slap in the face, "There is nothing here for me" as though her mother counted for nothing.
I guess that we should not be surprised after all the selfish snivelling heard from her on our local radio station while incarcerated in Mexico. Then we listened to the ungrateful words said about the Canadian government when they came to Ms. Martin's aid.
Ms. Martin, you were sentenced to five additional years, guilty or not, but you were released by the same government you were so critical of.
If I had been in Ms. Martin's shoes not once would I be delivering home chilling messages to my mother of suicide. I would have taken responsibility for my poor choices, grown a backbone, stood up and let her know I was going to be fine.
I would have given her strength to endure instead of so much pain and grief witnessed by all who kept track of this story through the media.
I was once looking forward to a book written by Ms. Martin but not anymore. It will have no substance, and no appreciation of how fortunate she is.
Things could have turned out (quite boring) quite different, depending how you look at it. |
