Mexico Against Gender Based-Violence Prensa Latina go to original
Mexico City - The Mexican Senate´s Commission for Legislative Studies is preparing an initiative to declare 2009 as the Violence Against Women Year.
Senator Claudia Sofia Corichi (from the opposition Democratic Revolution Party) said the proposal stems from the context of violence Mexican women are suffering both from their families and at work.
Corichi advocated for Congress to pass the bill, so public policies be implemented at all government levels to eradicate gender based-violence and provoke a cultural change within society regarding the treatment of women.
For that reason a series of activities must be implemented to raise the people's awareness with the issue, she emphasized.
Among them, she stressed, the Public Education Secretariat must define the importance of fighting women's violence for the development of Mexico.
She demanded speedy reproduction and full distribution of the General Law of Women Access to a Life free of Violence in the main languages of the country
Corichi also proposed the Government Secretariat to broadcast permanently through out radio Program La Hora Nacional about the Mexican women's rights. |
