Crussh launch traditional cactus juice and smoothies for a healthy start to 2009
Crussh, the UK's oasis of healthy food and drinks has today launched the first freshly pressed La Nopalea organic cactus juice drinks ever available in the UK.

Harvested just in time for those New Year resolutions, the delicious drinks are not only clean in taste but clean in nature and are packed full of healing and soothing properties ideal for your January detox.

The organic cactus detox is available as either a smoothie, blended with 98% fat free yoghurt, lime, pineapple and banana or as a traditional juice (mixed with freshly squeezed orange juice). Costs for the drinks are £3.00 for the smoothie and £2.80 for the juice.

Celebrated for its wealth of health-promoting benefits including cleansing the liver and colon; the cactus offers a great variety and high levels of antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C and Bs, as well as providing a rich source of fibre and hydration due to its high water levels. Research has also linked the use of cactus in treating intestinal illnesses such as ulcers, reducing blood sugar levels in diabetes and in lowering cholesterol. Mexican families have for centuries taken cactus juice every morning to maintain optimum health.

Deeply entwined in Mexican mythology and tradition, the cactus is an iconic symbol which legend has it, helped to unearth what is now Mexico City and even features on the national flag.

Grown in mountainous Mexico, the La Nopalea cactus is cultivated on a farm run by a local family passionate about the cactus plant and its detoxifying qualities. Free from chemical fertilisers, the family strive to nurture their organic produce, considering it a precious resource essential to their daily life and well being.

'Here in Milpa Alta, we have been growing and using the La Nopalea cactus for generations. We eat the paddles as food and drink the revitalising juice every morning to kick-start our day. I truly believe it is what keeps my family and the Mexican people so healthy and happy' - Haracio, owner of La Nopalea cactus farm.

So get back to nature this New Year and soothe your body with the time-old Mexican cactus detox available at all Crussh stores throughout January and February.
