It's a tapestry of colors, characters and designs. One of the artisan fairs in Patzcuaro, Michoacán takes place the week before the Day of the Dead, November second. Puerto Vallarta interior design and décor store owners, Peter and Tari Bowman, shop and spend till they drop.

"It's totally personal, we choose what we like, sometimes we choose what other people might like," says super shopper, Tari Bowman. "We think that what we find as different, unusual, entertaining is something that our customers like as well."

The stores, Banderas Bay Trading Company and The Annex, are known for Mexican folk art and handicrafts. The owners purchase most of their inventory at the fair. One of the most colorful items they carry, clay figures and scenes.

"This style is Ocamichu and I think they are all probably related, it's a big village that just does this type of clay figure work," says Peter Bowman, Buyer, "It's the traditional area where they build scenes out of raw clay and then they hand paint them."

The selection is endless and Tari finds different scenes, which she finds amusing. "We're really into chickens everywhere so the chicken truck and the next scene is Pollo Feliz with a dog waiting for tidbits."

The matrix of patterns and dots on thousands of forms boggles the mind. Each scene and figure is hand made and original in design. Like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike.

"It's totally the character of rustic Mexico of the pueblos and what we love is the expression of the people from the villages as they see modern life and how they live it," says Tari.

The three-dimensional creations give you a stroke of Mexican culture on a much smaller scale including sheep, armadillos and more.

Even though the fair took place in November, you will still be able to see and buy all the great crafts right now at Banderas Bay Trading Company, Lazaro Cardenas 263, and The Annex, Constitución 319A - both conveniently located on the south side of Puerto Vallarta.
