| President leads Mexican Air Force Day ceremony | | Tecámac, Mexico State - President Felipe Calderón led the Mexican Air Force Day Ceremony, at which he decorated members of this institute for their outstanding work in the fight against drug trafficking.
At the Santa Lucía Military Air Base in the state of Mexico, the President hailed the upright, loyal, patriotic behavior of the soldiers who refused bribes from criminal organizations to ensure the rule of law and the sovereignty of the country.
“Nothing intimidates us and nothing will stop us, this is the vital breath that animates the members of our military institutes. Together with members of the army and navy, you have been in the front line of combat, standing in the way of criminals seeking to threaten the country and responding to those that challenge the state with their criminal activities and violent actions, thereby guaranteeing the nation's internal security," he declared.
Accompanied by State Governor Enrique Peña Nieto, as well as Secretaries of National Defense, Guillermo Galván Galván; the Navy, Mariano Francisco Saynez Mendoza; Public Security, Genaro García Luna, Communications and Transport, Luis Téllez Kuenzler, President Calderón confirmed the support Federal Government has given the Armed Forces since the start of his administration.
Proof of this is the authorization in 2009 of an extra 5% for military personnel's salaries, together with an extra thousand pesos as technical compensation in service for troop personnel.
The President announced that this year, the National Defense Secretariat will be assigned an unprecedented budget of over $43.6 billion pesos, 25% higher than in 2008.
The President declared that he regards Mexican soldiers as they were described by General Vicente Riva Palacio: That every society holds in its breast an incorruptible seed of morality and a nucleus of men whom neither seduction nor fear are able to corrupt.
“The Mexican Air Force is the pride of all, because it is an example of nobility and moral duty, loyalty and social commitment. As President of Mexico, I am honored to command an institution that has emerged from the people and is fully identified with values that link Mexicans and dedicated to the defense of the Nation's highest interests," he declared. |
