CAPASITS in Need of HIV Specialist Salvador Murguía - PVNN
| CAPASITS and VES, Puerto Vallarta's HIV/AIDS non-profit organization, work together to provide high-quality medical care, counseling and psychological support to at-risk communities in the Banderas Bay area. | | The CAPASITS Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV Prevention and Attention Center in Puerto Vallarta awaits a new doctor specializing in STD’s and HIV due to the recent departure of a specialist.
One of the two specialists in this area working with CAPASITS, Dr. Claudia Mendez, recently moved back to Guadalajara to pursue her career goals. This leaves a large gap in the fight against the HIV epidemic in the Banderas Bay region.
"CAPASITS is searching for a new specialist from Guadalajara or Mexico City to help Dr. Galileo Vargas with all the patients receiving treatments," said Lic. Alondra Mendizabal, CAPASITS Administrator.
Additionally, this institution is planning to expand their existing space by creating a laboratory to provide a quick collection of blood samples. This will allow for faster results to better help patients receive medications quickly. This plan is intended to improve the quality of the service provided in Puerto Vallarta as soon as samples are sent to Guadalajara for analysis. Travel times have been known to alter results.
CAPASITS is an organization that provides medical care and psychological assistance to patients and relatives of people infected with HIV. They also receive patients with recurrent STD’s or Hepatitis B or C.
CAPASITS works with the assistance and financial support from Governmental institutions and also local Organizations like V.E.S. (Vallarta Confronts AIDS) which provides financial resources and assistance for local Laboratories for expensive medical tests for people with limited or nonexistent economical resources.
CAPASITS is open to the public for rapid HIV tests and assistance to people who are already infected, from 8 am to 8 pm.
Translated by Salvador Murguía Puerto Vallarta's HIV/AIDS non-profit organization, Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA, and CAPASITS, work together to provide high-quality medical care, counseling and psychological support, education and prevention programs, and outreach to at-risk communities in the Banderas Bay area.
