Fantastic Fireworks Light Up Vallarta PVNN
| Over 1500 spectators were wowed by the nighttime spectacular presented by El Grupo Tultepec at La Lija sports complex in Coapinole on April 21st. (Video Diva Productions) | | Multicolored lights are igniting the skies over Puerto Vallarta as the city hosts pyrotechnical manufacturers and showmen from all over the world during the 11th Annual International Fireworks Symposium, which continues through April 24th.
On April 20th, hundreds of Vallartenses and visitors, along with Puerto Vallarta Mayor Javier Bravo and city officials, gathered at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium, where they enjoyed the first public display presented by firework manufacturers and showmen from the states of Jalisco, Michoacán and Guanajuato.
Over the course of two hours, the crowd ooh-ed and aah-ed as they watched the Mexican pyrotechnical experts illuminate the stadium with 8 Traditional "Castillos de Morillo," followed by a spectacular aerial display that could be seen for miles.
After the show was over, the crowd moved to the Aquiles Serdán Amphitheater on the Malecón in downtown Puerto Vallarta, where they were joined by hundreds of other locals and visitors for another impressive fireworks display put on by Pirotecnia Mexicana Artesanal from the state of Mexico. In this 45 minutes show, the main attraction was the three Pyro-musical Towers portraying the tradition of fireworks in Mexico.
On Tuesday, April 21st a daylight display was presented at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium, giving more than 40 members of the Pirotécnicos de Tultepec group the opportunity to show off their talents and creativity.
Unlike traditional nighttime castillos, which are made up of thousands of tubes filled with hand-packed gunpowder and chemicals to create the colors, the daytime towers crafted by this group of pyrotechnic artisans made use of smoke and colored streamers to bring the cartoon characters, puppets and models to life.
Later, El Grupo Tultepec put on another show at the La Lija sports complex in Coapinole, a suburb of El Pitillal. The city of Tultepec is known as the Fireworks Capital of Mexico, so it's no wonder that over 1500 spectators showed up to watch the exhibition, which wowed the crowd with three 35 meter high Castillos, a 50 meter tall Castillo and an aerial display featuring 3000 shells set off electronically to music in a "pyro-musical" grand finale.
At 11 pm the action moved to the Main Plaza in downtown Puerto Vallarta, where the Mexico City Institute of Pyrotechnics (Instituto Mexiquense de la Pirotecnia) presented "Luz en Movimiento," a spectacular show celebrating the tradition of fireworks in Mexico.
