Mexico City's liberal laws often mask the reality of life for homosexuals in Mexico's provincial villages, towns and cities, where they battle for rights and respect in the face of right-wing political behemoths and the ire of the Catholic Church.
Couples in Mexico City are already registering to get married, following new legislation passed in December. Jalisco will have to wait much longer for a similar bill, local gay groups say, due to the conservative nature of society have and the influence of the Catholic Church.
