Lights Out for Climate Change - Earth Hour 2010 Israel Mendoza - The News go to original March 26, 2010
| Earth Hour is a day when the world comes together – it shows we’re all part of the problem and we must all be part of the solution. Switching off our lights for an hour makes a huge visual statement and sends out an important message for action against climate change. Visit EarthHour.org | | In efforts to raise consciousness about climate change, millions of people are encouraged to use no electricity for one hour Saturday.
The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) hopes that more people will participate in this year’s Earth Hour, which is set to last from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. tomorrow. Last year, an estimated 1.2 billion people in 88 countries and 4,000 cities turned off their lights in the event.
The campaign began in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, when 2.2 million people turned off the lights for an hour. A year later, Earth Hour aimed to become a global sustainability movement, with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. |
