2010 Banderas Bay Regatta - Race Day 2
email this pageprint this pageemail usRichard Williams - Banderas Bay Regatta 2010

The 2010 Banderas Bay Regatta runs through Saturday, March 20th.
After dancing the night away to the fantastic music of the TallBoys Band at the Vallarta Yacht Club, skippers and crew were up bright and early this morning to ready their boats for the second day of racing in the 2010 Banderas Bay Regatta. The docks at both Paradise Village Marina and Marina Riviera Nayarit were a beehive of activity.

Some were picking up and checking out sails that were repaired last night, many were checking their boats out, making sure that everything was working correctly. Several groups were spotted at the Vallarta Yacht Club having breakfast studying the race courses and excitedly discussing strategy.

The faster boats in divisions A, B, and C raced a 20 mile course today that stretched from close to La Cruz to the buoy near the entrance to the cruise ship port and then back to the start / finish line north of the entrance to Nuevo Vallarta. Divisions D through G raced an 11 mile course keeping them in the far northern section of the bay. Forty Seven (47) boats started Friday's race and 43 finished. The 4 boats that did not finish were disqualified because they did not cross the finish line within the 5 hour time limit set for the race.

Although there were a couple of surprises, patterns are starting to show up, especially in divisions B, E, and F where real dog fights are taking place. In division B, Meshach and Maluhia are really neck and neck. Maluhia finished 1st yesterday but today Meshach prevailed with Maluhia coming in a close second. In division E, Talion solidly took first place after fighting it out with Tomatillo who finished first yesterday. In division F, Saber Viver and Charissa are in a real battle for 2nd and 3rd. The WOW factor for Friday's race has to be Full Quiver who moved from a 4th place finish in Race 1 to a solid second place on Friday.

One more thing about the WOW factor for Race 1, the name of the skipper who was single handling Pantera was Bob Smith.

The Banderas Bay Regatta would not be possible without the generous support of its sponsors including: Vallarta Yacht Club, Grupo Lloyd, Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa, Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group, Mariners General Insurance Group, State of Nayrit / Rivera Nayarit, Philo's Bar and Restaurant, PV Sailing, Vallarta Yachts, Vallarta Adventures, O & A Investment Funds, Marina Rivera Nayarit and Artist Federico Leon de La Vega.
