| Not to be oudone, a 7 year old girl from VIP connects for a base hit | | Each week there seems to be an exciting game in each age division. In the 12-14 year old division Banderas News faced La Cruz, who has been close in every game but has faltered at the end due to a weaker relief pitching staff. BanderasNews scored twice in the top of the 1st and La Cruz answered back with two runs to tie the game. After a scoreless 2nd inning BanderasNews hit back-to-back home runs by Francisco Ramon and Raul Martinez to take a 4-2 lead. Ramon's homer was the longest blast of the season, a one bounce shot that hit the left center field fence. La Cruz again answered with two runs to tie the game with a two run homer.
Ramon came in to pitch in the 4th inning and struck out the side and La Cruz also held their opponents scoreless. After four innings the thriller was tied 4-4. BanderasNews, with the aid of a two run home run took a 6-4 lead in the top of the 5th and again Ramon struck out the side to preserve the lead. In the 6th and final inning BanderasNews got to the relief pitcher for four more runs, sending 10 batters to the plate to open a 10-4 lead. Ramon was nearly perfect again as he struck out the side, walking one batter to seal the exciting and well played 10-4 victory.
In the other 12-14 year old game, division leader Teatro Limon crushed winless Las Rocas 26-6 in a game that was halted via the mercy rule after four innings. Las Rocas has a number of players that had never played baseball prior to the start of the season and are steadily improving.
The highlight game is the 9-11 year old division, Pipis and Los Picosos squared off. The two teams had played two thrillers prior to this game; the first was a 14-13 Picosos victory in a pre-season game and then Pipis handed Los Picosos their only loss in the regular season with a 20-17 victory. The rubber match was expected to be another tight game and the packed stands were cheering for their favorite team.
Pipis led 3-1 after the 1st inning and added three more runs in the top of the 2nd to open a 6-1 lead, but the hard hitting Picosos scored seven big runs to take an 8-6 lead in their half of the 2nd. Los Picosos held Pipis scoreless in the 3rd and added another two runs to extend the lead to 10-6 halfway through the game. Pipis closed the gap with three runs in the 4th, allowing just one and it was 11-9 after four innings. Pipis loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the 5th in a tense 5th inning, couldn't capitalize, but held their opponents scoreless as well as the two teams went to the final inning. Los Picosos retired Pipis on three consecutive outs with solid pitching and good defense and won 11-9 to move into 2nd place.
In the other game a steadily improving Mexlend squad flexed their muscles, scoring 38 runs against the new Ixaya Cafe team that was competitive offensively, scoring 21 runs. The game was halted after five innings via the mercy rule. Look for Ixaya Café to improve as the season progresses and perhaps make some noise if they reach the playoffs.
The regular season is made up of eight games before the playoffs begin. The playoff system has been changed. The winner of each age group plays the fourth place team in their division and the second place team plays the third place team in a best two out of three game series. The two winners of that series will play for the championship in a best three out of five series to crown a champion in each age category. The standings thus far are as follows:

Remember that T Ball will be played on the main baseball field Thursday at 4:00 PM and the kids had their second game with their sporty new uniforms that were donated by Lic. Jhovanee Monge de Rottigni. She is the Editorial Director of VIP magazine and Homes & Living magazine. The names of the teams are the same and the kids looked sharp in their uniforms and actually drew a larger crowd on Thursday than the older kids did on Saturday. With good coaching the 6-8 year olds are improving each week. Although we keep score, there are no losers; each team wins.
Saturday's schedule is as follows: 12-14 year old division: 11:00 AM - Las Rocas vs. BanderasNews 1:30 PM - Teatro Limon vs. La Cruz
