FCH Confirms Condemnation of Anastasio Hernández Case
Suzanne Stephens Waller - Presidencia de la República go to original June 04, 2010
The Presidency confirms Federal Government's condemnation of the case of Mexican citizen Anastasio Hernández Rojas, who was violently subdued by US migratory authorities in San Diego, California on Friday May 28 and died on May 31. It also sent its deepest condolences Mr. Hernández Rojas' relatives.
From the moment Federal Government was informed of events, on Friday, May 28, it issued specific instructions to the Foreign Affairs Secretariat to provide all possible assistance to Mr. Hernández Rojas' family, particularly legal advice and financial support through the Mexican Consulate General. Instructions were also sent to the Chancellor’s office and the Mexican embassy in Washington to remain in permanent contact with US authorities to express the Mexican government’s position and supervise the development of the investigations that have taken place on the death of this Mexican citizen.
The Presidency is deeply concerned that the evidence and testimonies gathered to date, including the necropsy results announced by the San Diego Forensic Office, suggest the possibility that the death of Mr. Hernández Rojas may have been due to the excessive use of force by US federal agents, who were holding him in custody at the time.
The Mexican government will spare no effort and make use of all available diplomatic resources to clarify these regrettable events and where necessary, bring those responsible to justice. |
