In Mexico, Condemnation and Concern over Recent Events on Border

| Gómez Mont |  | Interior Secretary Fernando Gómez Mont telephoned US Homeland Security Secretary to express his condemnation and concern over recent events on the border in which Anastasio Hernández Rojas and Sergio Adrián Hernández, both Mexican citizens, lost their lives.
 During the conversation, Secretary Gómez Mont stressed the fact that the Mexican state will use all available diplomatic and legal instruments to clarify events and determine the corresponding responsibilities.
 He explained that for the Mexican government, the unjustified use of lethal force against its population is unacceptable, adding that it is necessary to continue its excessive use in border security tasks, due to the risks that his entails for people's integrity and the peace of the area.
 Secretary Gómez Mont stressed the need to jointly evaluate the protocols regarding the use of use by each nation to defend its border, in order to guarantee the enforcement of the law while protecting the fundamental rights of persons on either side of the border.
 The Interior Secretary will continue working in conjunction with the Homeland Security Department to enable both countries to strengthen the security and integrity of Mexican and US citizens on the common border.
