Together We Will Overcome Crime: Calderón Suzanne Stephens Waller - Presidencia de la República go to original November 05, 2010
| (Presidencia de la República) | | Mexicali, Baja California - At a celebration with troops from the 2nd Military Region in Baja California, President Felipe Calderón said that on behalf of those who have given their lives for Mexico, Federal Government will continue to fight for a better future for the country and restore security for all Mexicans.
“A fight to eliminate any attempt by criminals to dominate the lives and tranquility of our communities and people.
Together we will succeed. I know that we will succeed with the strength of our institutions. I know that we will overcome crime, because there are far more Mexicans, millions in fact, who wish to live in peace, progress and on the basis of our efforts will never give up or be subjected, through fear or violence, to anyone else's will," he said.
In Mexicali, accompanied by State Governor José Guadalupe Osuna and National Defense Secretary Guillermo Galván, the President hailed the armed forces since, he said, they have done a great deal to help people and are a source of inspiration to turn Mexico into the nation of peace, institutions and justice to which we aspire.
“That is why we have come here, because the people of Mexico and the President in particular, honor their work, because through your actions, you ensure the well-being of Mexicans and the progress of their families and the nation's higher interest, because your loyalty and the risks you face on an everyday basis warrant and have earned the gratitude of the people of Mexico," he said.
During the event, at which soldiers’ children were given high school and university scholarships and those who had distinguished themselves in the fight against drug trafficking and the relatives of soldiers killed in the course of duty were given awards, President Calderón urged them to continue using their discipline, talent, bravery, courage and love to enable Mexico to achieve the greatness it deserves.
It is precisely the threat to our freedom and security that has made this administration advance in the struggle and persevere in its effort to achieve the security Mexico deserves and will hand down to future generations.
“To achieve this objective, it is essentials to persevere in the effort to rebuild the law enforcement institutions in our country. But while this is achieved, at the federal level and in every order of government, in every corner of the country, it is vital to achieve the subsidiary, temporary and coordinated support of the Armed Forces in the fulfillment of their duty to preserve the country's domestic security,” he said. |
