Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Vallarta news headlines, a few community announcements, and a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.
Puerto Vallarta Taxi Certification Program
Recognizing the need to improve the city's public taxi service, the Puerto Vallarta Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), in conjunction with the Jalisco Ministry of Transportation (SEMOV) and the Jalisco Institute of Work Training (IDEFT), began requiring all taxi drivers to undergo a 4-week certification course. The program, which covers everything from driving safety and emergency procedure training to basic mechanics and customer service, was initiated in November 2014. To date, 590 taxistas have been certified, 273 are in the process of certification, and 355 are slated to start the certification program. The proposed goal of this program is to certify 2,500 drivers, who will then be registered with SEMOV as licensed professionals who offer tourists quality service.
Fashion for Compassion at Oscar's Restaurant
On Saturday, February 21st at 12:30 pm, Oscar's Restaurant will host a Fashion Show and Luncheon to raise money for Puerto Vallarta's Colina Spay and Neuter Clinic, which provides free spaying and neutering services to Banderas Bay area pet owners who otherwise would be unable to get their cats and dogs sterilized. This will be a wonderful afternoon. Bring your spouse, and enjoy a three course meal, Sangria, lots of silent auction prizes and live entertainment provided by Kim Kuzma and Miss Conception on the gorgeous grounds at Oscars, at the foot of the Molina de Aqua. Tickets cost $350 pesos per person and are available at Cassandra Shaw Jewelry on Basilio Badillo,
Nacho Daddy and all three Deja New Consignment locations, as well as at Alexander A Salon. On another note, due to a change in the vet's schedule, Colina will be changing their operating day to Saturdays, and will no longer be open on Sundays until further notice. Please tell anyone you know that uses these services, that the clinic is now open on Saturdays instead of Sundays.
