next | Simon Paredones Lara, 39, rests on his bed during his first day at the Companerismo Victoria A.C. Rehabilitation Center while he listens to residents sing Soy Feliz, Christo me salvo. Yo era un drogadito y Christo me salvo (I'm happy because Christ saved me... I was a drug addict and Christ saved me) on June 21, 2005 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Lara was given clean clothes, a bed, food and prayers from other addicts during his first day at the clinic. The clients believe in the power of prayer to rehabilitate and do not use other drug substitutes, such as methadone, to over come their addictions. | |
