Rockford, Illinois - On May 31, 2013, the Greater Rockford Airport Authority approved an agreement with Apple Vacations to provide nonstop service to Licenciado Gustavo Daz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Puerto Vallarta is home to several major tourist attractions including El Pitillal, The Marieta Islands, Los Muertos Beach, and Los Arcos National Marine Park.
The first departure flight from RFD is scheduled for January 27, 2014. Weekly departure and return flights will run through April 3, 2014.
Tickets from RFD to Puerto Vallarta went on sale Friday, June 1st, and will be available online via FlyRFD.com, AppleVacations.com, or through your local travel agent.
In addition to the flights to Puerto Vallarta, Apple Vacations is adding a second weekly flight to Punta Cana out of RFD. These destinations have drawn solid bookings at RFD with flights consistently at or near capacity.
"Our relationship with Apple Vacations continues to grow and the addition of Puerto Vallarta gives us a Pacific Ocean destination. Expanded international destinations and the additional weekly flight to Punta Cana demonstrate the region enjoys the hassle-free experience at RFD," said RFD Executive Director Mike Dunn. "Every new service added provides further evidence of RFD's popularity and underscores the necessity of a terminal expansion to meet the needs of our growing passenger base."
"We think Puerto Vallarta will become a popular destination for Rockford-area residents," said Mark Noennig, Vice President/General Manager of Apple Vacations. "New and modern resorts like Now Amber, Dreams Villamagna, RIU Palace Pacifico and, later this year, a new Iberostar in Riviera Nayarit - all with upgraded rooms and restaurants - are a good choice for couples, family and group travel. Apple Vacations' new nonstop flights from Rockford make Puerto Vallarta an easy and affordable getaway."
RFD reported the busiest month in its history in March 2013 with 35,453 passengers using the airport.
