La Paz, BCS, Mexico - The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that Hurricane Amanda intensified to a category four storm early Sunday morning. It is located 1245 kilometers south of Cabo San Lucas, and 1075 kilometers southwest of Manzanillo, Colima.
In its latest report, the agency indicated that this phenomenon keeps moving west-northwest at 7 miles per hour, with winds of 220 mph and gusts up to 270 kilometers per hour.
They explained that there is still no direct threat to Mexican coastal towns, however, the resulting clouds may bring about very heavy rains in Jalisco and Michoacan, as well as in Colima. Less intense rains may affect Nayarit; but Baja California Sur is not expected to receive any precipitation at this time.
Though this system is not expected to make landfall, the public is urged to take precautions and remain attentive to alerts by state and municipal Civil Protection authorities.
