Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - A passion for seafood. Jorge Abraham Gonzalez, who works at The Blue Shrimp Restaurant on Puerto Vallarta's Los Muertos Beach, creates spectacular dishes for clients to enjoy. He was recently promoted.
"I like to serve good food," says Jorge. "I started working at The Blue Shrimp in 2007 as a dishwasher, and through hard work and determination, today I am the Executive Chef. I'm very proud of this accomplishment."
Jorge moved from Nogales, Sonora to Puerto Vallarta with his parents when he was very young. He grew up in a city with over 500 restaurants, eventually found a job and discovered the opportunity to move up and hone a skill that he has come to admire and love.
"I find cooking to be a form of expression," says Jorge. "There's always a chance to experiment with new flavors and invent new combinations of ingredients. I especially like the fact that I get to work with seafood that's delivered fresh every day by local fishermen."
Jorge says he draws a great deal of inspiration from the famous television chefs, Bobby Flay, best known for Tex Mex food, and Morimoto, who is a legendary Japanese seafood expert.
"It's a dream to own my own restaurant someday," says Jorge. "I have plenty of time to think about the years ahead, but for the immediate future I plan to make myself at home at The Blue Shrimp."
Check with The Blue Shrimp often because Chef Jorge is planning special, limited time menus featuring seafood in many inventive forms.
