March 15, 2016 Update: According to the event's Facebook page, the 1st Vallarta-Nayarit Hot Air Balloon Fair, which was scheduled for March 18-20 has been postponed "due to weather conditions." The new dates have not yet been announced.
Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico - With the onset of spring, Riviera Nayarit is planning to cover the coastal sky with a parade of balloons and host a down-to-earth party with music, antique car exhibitions, motocross, remote control aircraft, and booths selling regional food and products.
Set to take place March 18 through 20th in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, the first-ever Vallarta-Nayarit Hot Air Balloon Festival will offer both tourists and locals a fun new option in outdoor entertainment.
Although it may seem elaborate to compete with events such as the "International Balloon Festival" in León, Guanajuato; or the "Cielo Mágico Balloon Fiesta Monterrey" in the capital of Nuevo Leon, the coastal organizers promise not to shrink from the competition and throw an unprecedented party.
Only a few days after the event was announced, the amount of interest shown by people in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay suggests that the inaugural event will be well attended. So far, organizers have announced that they're offering 50 pre sale tickets at $1,700 pesos per balloon ride (regular price $2300 pesos) and entrance to the fair will be $50 pesos per person.
Organizers say that in the coming days they will be giving us more details on the venues and program costs, but at this point, they believe that the "1st Hot Air Balloon Fair" in Riviera Nayarit will cause tourism in the Banderas Bay region to go "sky high."
