The Weekend Beat - January 3, 2009
email this pageprint this pageemail usPuerto Vallarta News with William Michael

Thanks for logging on to Puerto Vallarta's Liveliest Website, BanderasNews.com. This is Weekend Beat, and I'm William Michael.

For entertaining video reports covering everything from the hottest places to eat, drink and shop to information about attractions, events, and charitable organizations, be sure to watch Laura Gelezunas twice a month on The Banderas Beat.
Holidays Past: The Epiphany marks the end of the season. This is January sixth and it's the day when the three wise men brought gifts to the baby Jesus. In Mexico, this is the day children typically receive their holiday presents. Four Puerto Vallarta altruistic gentlemen make sure some kids truly enjoy this holiday. The group gathered funds from friends and relatives to buy goodies for less fortunate girls and boys. Just over $700 dollars was raised. Toys were handed out at Apache's Bar on Olas Altas.

Tree Trash: Don't just dump your old Christmas tree on the corner. The department of Parques y Jardines, parks and gardens, is collecting old holiday trees free of charge. You can drop yours off at Calle Pelicanos 136, at the corner of Alondra in Colonia Los Sauces. If you can't drop it off, call (322) 224-8506 and speak with Valeria and arrange for home pick up.

Get Your Arts: Starting January 16th, the first edition of Festival Cuale will feature national and international artists presenting a wide variety of activities and opportunities for the tourists and locals. The concept offers a wide range of activities such as music, dance, theater, culinary art and activities for children. With events daily, the Festival Cuale runs through January 31st.

Terminal Money: Airport Group Pacifico (GAP) will invest $110 million pesos in the air terminal of Puerto Vallarta. The investment will improve the terminal and luggage security equipment. Economics aside, GAP proclaims the crisis has not affected the air traffic to Puerto Vallarta. From January to November 2008, an increase of almost six percent was seen from the previous year.

Spay On: The mantra of Ayuda a los Animales, help the animals, part of the PEACE non-profit association. The group kicked off the 2009 spay and neuter clinics in San Juan de Abajo on January 7th. The snip and clip continues in Valle starting January 14th. If you want to volunteer, contact Paulina at this email. For more information check out PeaceMexico.org.

Loving Saint: The Festivities of Our Lady of Peace begin January 16th in Bucerias. The local plaza features nightly entertainment and food. The fiesta continues until the 24th when a castle is set on fire with fireworks. What fires attention is a young man wearing a bull's head. He runs through the multitude of fireworks. This tradition stems from Catholic's devotion to Our Lady of Peace.

You've logged on to Weekend Beat, thanks for watching. BanderasNews is the ONLY website in the Bay of Banderas that shows local video reports.
