Less Pollution on Banderas Bay Beaches

The cleanest beaches in the Banderas Bay area are Playas Rio Cuale, Los Muertos, Camarones, Flamingos, Gemelas and Osiris. (PromoVision)
The person in charge of the Health Secretary of Jalisco's Recreational Waters Usage Program, Margarita Coronado Gallardo, indicated that 10 local beaches have been monitored since last month, and the only beach that went over the pollution standards was Quimixto Beach, but after only 20 days this beach can be used for recreational activities since the pollutions indices have gone down.

"In this last analysis, all the sample zones showed very low levels of pathogen agents, most of them presenting even less than 10 bacteriological organisms per cubic meter, except Mismaloya Beach, where around 288 of these agents were found per square meter, but these numbers are still within the permitted limits." Coronado indicated.

The beaches being analyzed are Rio Cuale, Yelapa, Quimixto, Las Animas, Los Muertos, Mismaloya, Camarones, Flamingos, Gemelas and Osiris. This is due to the fact that these beaches are near river mouths and, especially during the rainy season, fecal waste is brought into the ocean that can make these beaches unhealthy for recreational use.

Some of the symptoms that may be acquired from contact with these bacterium are dermatitis, diarrhea or conjunctivitis. Coronado advises anyone who experiences any of these symptoms after swimming in the ocean to seek immediate medical assistance.

The analysis samples are taken during the first two weeks of every month and are sent to the Sanitation Regional Laboratories to determine the quality of the water. When the levels of pollution are too high, signs are posted in order to inform and prevent visitors from entering the polluted water.

Among the beaches listed above, the cleanest are Playas Rio Cuale, Los Muertos, Camarones, Flamingos, Gemelas and Osiris.
