17th Annual Banderas Bay Regatta Laurie Ailworth - PVNN
See below for daily Regatta 2009 reports and updates.
The XVII Regata Internacional de Bahía de Banderas (known locally as the Banderas Bay Regatta,) scheduled to take place from March 17th-21st, promises to be the highlight of the 2009 sailing season for coastal sailors from the US, Canada and Mexico.
It's a series of fun but competitive races with coastal and offshore cruisers in mind. "Cruisers" are boats that double as houses - live aboard sailors that explore the bays, inlets and shorelines of the beautiful Pacific coast of Mexico, aka the "Mexican Riviera."
The Vallarta Yacht Club will be the headquarters and center of activities throughout the week. Daily races will challenge the skill of salty sailors and crew. The steady afternoon breezes make Banderas Bay the best sailing venue on the Mexican Pacific coast.
Daily music, celebrations and dinners means this is a "not to be missed" event for skippers and crew of any make and model of sailboat. It's not too late to sign up... skippers have until 9 am Tuesday, March 17 to register online at BanderasBayRegatta.com.
Although some events are just for the participating sailors, visitors are welcome to join the nightly festivities at the Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC). Live music and great food, all in a tropical setting, will be a lively addition to activities in the North Bay. For more information and a schedule of events, please see BanderasBayRegatta.com.
The VYC is located beside Paradise Plaza, the mall in Nuevo Vallarta next to Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa. Parking is available on the street or paid parking below the mall.
The Banderas Bay Regatta would not be possible without the generous support of its sponsors, including: Vallarta Yacht Club, Grupo Lloyd, Paradise Village Beach Resort and Spa, Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group, Mariners General Insurance Group, State of Nayarit/Riviera Nayarit, Philo's Bar and Restaurant, PV Sailing, and Vallarta Yachts.
The Vallarta Yacht Club is host of the Banderas Bay Regatta under the auspices of Regatas y Deportes Marítimos - Bahía de Banderas (Sección Jalisco, A.C., and Sección Nayarit, A.C., affiliated with the Mexican Sailing Federation.)
