For more information, visit HansKing.com. | | Unless you are already attuned to the language of New Age thought - or have read at least one Shirley MacLaine book - you might find yourself in need of a translator as Hans Christian King, a "direct voice" medium, discusses his unique talent for receiving direct communication from the spirit world - or what he calls "the other side."
Hans explains that unlike a platform medium who just receives vibrations or feelings, he actually hears words, and speaks the words as they are being given to him by one of his four spirit guides. He's been a spiritual teacher and medium for nearly half a century.
Hans' matter-of-fact references to spirit guides, chakras and energetic guidance might seem a tad woo-woo to skeptics, were it not for his accessible, self-deprecating demeanor - and responses to critics largely devoid of ego. "I wouldn't have a practice without skeptics," he has said. The more skeptical a person is, the harder they fall during a reading."
Mr. King knew he was different than other children by the age of three, when he was contacted by his first spirit guide, Red Cloud. By the time he was seven years old, he was doing psychic readings. He has come to view a lifelong struggle with A.D.D. and Dyslexia as conditions that have only served to enhance his psychic gifts.
He doesn't take the gift lightly. "When I first knew I had this ability, I felt a deep responsibility - to the Spirit, to the people I want to help. My goal is to comfort people, to let them know they are not alone."
That help comes in the form of private readings and lectures on topics like angels, guides or psychic development. "I usually do a 45 min. lecture. Then in the second half I convey messages from the other side to specific members of the audience. I approach the person and give them the message, confirming with the audience member that they understand."
Messages may come in the form of words of comfort from a deceased relative, advice on a health issue, or wisdom on behaviors that are blocking someone's spiritual development.
So what are Spirit Guides?
"Well, 'spirit guide' is just one way to describe them. I also call them angels, friends and helpers." They all have individual personalities and voices.
Do we all have Spirit Guides?
"Yes, everyone does, but not everyone is in tune with them. One of the things I do is help people lower their mind 'chatter' and raise their spiritual vibration to get to the same frequency as their Spirit Guides. The Spirit then lowers its vibration so they can connect better."
There may be more high-profile mediums - James Van Praagh and John Edward come to mind. But none is more respected than Hans King, who has been endorsed by Yale-trained psychiatrist Brian Weiss, MD, author of Many Lives, Many Masters. It has been suggested Hans is 16th century prophet Nostradamus reincarnated - an assertion that Hans doesn't reject. Most of us know Nostradamus primarily through the tabloids at the grocery checkout stand. The man had an uncanny knack for predicting future world events. Indeed, there is a startling physical resemblance.
So where does traditional religious faith fit into Mr. King's paradigm? "I have often said that if we practiced the principles of Christ we'd have a wonderful life. Unfortunately we practice the principles of dogma, which is attached to various churches and organizations. We've had some wonderful teachers; Jesus, Buddha, Gandhi. If we listen to what they say, our lives get much better. So I do think that the Christ principals are very important."
