A BanderasNews Brief & Upcoming Events Sylvie Scopazzo - PVNN February 19, 2010
There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. So we've put together a brief overview of some of this week's news headlines from local Spanish language publications, and added some upcoming events you won't want to miss.
Renovating the Face of Puerto Vallarta
Raúl Sánchez Tapia, President of the Puerto Vallarta's Architects committee informs that they will be conducting a survey in the tourist area on buildings which may have historical value. Areas in which they will be focusing on are the Cuale River to Guadalupe Sanchez Street and from the Malecón to Gringo Gulch.
Currently, the Municipal Authorities do not consult with the Architects who have a genuine interest in maintaining the image of Puerto Vallarta. Nor do they have an "Urban Image Law" in place which prevents business owners to change or destroy the historical face of this destination.
Strong efforts are being made to visit each house and each building to determine which are in fact historical. The idea is to list as many historical buildings possible and present this list to the Municipality in hopes to salvage Puerto Vallarta's image and history.
Canine Health Campaign in Banderas Bay
In the next few days an estimated 7 to 8 thousands dogs will be vaccinated for rabies and other transmittable diseases. The Campaign started today in the community of Valle de Banderas and will continue on to other communities such as, Mezcales, San Juan de Abajo, San Vincente and Porvenir. This campaign was co-ordinated by the Municipal Health Department along with the Nayarit Secretary of Health and persons from various educational institutions.
The vaccination booths will be located in the key points of the community like Public Plazas, Health Centres and Elementary Schools. These booths will be operating from 9 am to 6 pm and will be vaccinating dogs as young as one month. Most importantly, the service is free of charge.
The person in charge of The Municipal Health Department was interviewed saying, that the purpose of this campaign is to create a more healthy community at the same time, educate people about the care of their pets. This program has had a huge success in the past and with the help of the Sate, Municipals and the general public, the Department hopes to maintain a clean and save environment.
New Modern Theatre to Open in Vallarta
March 6th will be an exciting day for Puerto Vallarta as it will inaugurate its new modern theatre located on 185 Uruguay Street (behind the supermarket Ley). This $120 million pesos investment anticipates bringing concerts, plays, musicals, choirs, ballet and even opera to its venue.
Teatro Vallarta will make its debut with a spectacular musical performance called Fandango. This is a production that will dabble in the richness of regional music and other national icons such as the Pre-Hispanic dance. This happens to be the city's signature dance, well-known by Vallarta's residents and the thousands who visit this city each year.
In a recent phone interview, the director and mastermind of this theatre, Manuel Diaz Preciado, was quoted saying, "This new project will generate employment for 132 persons including musicians, dancers and operations personnel."
