Having the basic information for how health care services work in the Banderas Bay area is vitally important. HealthCare Resources is more than happy to go over this information with you individually as to how it applies to you and your own personal medical history and needs. With numerous services added over the past year, it is time to update and expand this information.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
We feel that the most reliable and professional private ambulance company in the area is Ambulancias Intermedic. They can be reached at (322) 225-9289 or 145-6218. It is important to have this number in your cell phone, on your refrigerator – wherever it is easily accessible to you. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
One of the reasons Ambulancias Intermedic is tops in our book is that they will take you to any hospital that you request. Please do not call HealthCare Resources first – call the ambulance and then, if you wish, contact us.
Believe it or not, many people do not know their address or where they are located! Be sure that you know the name of the condo-hotel you are staying at, the address and if possible, a cross street or something nearby. Example: "This is Mary Smith. I am staying at Condos XXX. Address is Calle Santa Barbara #555, one block from the beach, just below the Oxxo Station."
If you have a personal physician (which we certainly hope you do!) it is important to let your physician know you are going via ambulance to a hospital. Or, upon arrival to the hospital, be sure and let the hospital staff know who your personal physician is and that you would like them notified. As well, you can call HealthCare Resources. We are nearly always able to reach a physician.
The other Emergency Medical number that may be called for transport is 060, which will contact the Red Cross and/or the Fire Department. There should be no charge for these services. Response time will vary. If you are in an auto accident, these are the only two services that can respond to emergencies for medical treatment.
Any and all ambulance services must be paid at the time of service and do not accept insurance.
One of the biggest questions we receive is "Which hospital should I go to?" If it is a life-threatening emergency, go to the nearest Emergency Room. You can always be transferred to another facility later if need be!
Information that is very important that you have with you at all times for medical personnel is:
• Medications taken • Medication allergies • Emergency contact • Personal physician information • Blood type
Be prepared! When a medical emergency arises, most people are not thinking clearly. If all information is in place prior to the emergency, things will run much smoother and the medical personnel will be able to provide a much more complete service.
