| President Felipe Calderón inaugurates Zacatecas Mental Health and General Hospitals. (Presidencia de la República) | | President Felipe Calderón announced that nowadays, 90 million Mexicans already have medical insurance, meaning that Mexico will achieve universal health coverage before other countries.
On a tour of Zacatecas, during the inauguration of the Luz González Cosío General Hospital, and accompanied by state governor Amalia García Medina, the President declared that Federal Government is working in favor of justice and equality in our country, since the current administration has made an unprecedented effort in this field.
“And justice and equality are not hollow words, they are not just good wishes; justice and equality mean hospitals and clinics for people. We have constructed or reconstructed 1,800 hospitals. Justice and equality means access to health services, which is what 90 million Mexicans now have. Justice and equality means having a hospital like the Luz González Cosío Hospital, the general hospital that will change the lives of thousands and thousands of families in Zacatecas," he said.
The President added that there is no better way to celebrate the Bicentennial of our Independence and the Centennial of the Revolution than by enabling all Mexicans to have access to an indispensable right, which is health.
“An excellent way to celebrate the Bicentennial of Independence, 200 years of being proudly Mexican, is by giving health services to the people that do not have them and need them. Because the causes that inspired the 1810 Insurgents, the 1910 Revolutionaries, of freedom, equality and justice are precisely the causes that move, oblige and inspire us to continue working for the benefit of people to construct a more egalitarian Mexico,” he declared.
Earlier in the day, President Calderón also inaugurated the Calera Mental Health Hospital, the first of its kind in the area, which involved a joint investment of 54 million pesos shared by federal and state government.
The President wished Governor Amalia García Medina every success. Governor García will shortly be finishing her term as governor of Zacatecas and the President thanked her for her close collaboration and constructive attitude in their work together.
"Despite our differences, our work was always characterized by respectful communication and a single purpose, namely to serve the men and women of Zacatecas.
And I think that collaborating, constructing and placing the interests of the nation, the state and people above partial interests proved positive for Zacatecas,” he said. |
