Mexico Says Flu Won’t Be So Bad This Year Rocío Zayas - The News go to original November 03, 2010
| Mexico Secretary of Health, José Ángel Córdova Villalobos | | On Tuesday, the Secretary of Health, José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, said that the Influenza A (H1N1) virus and the Influenza A virus subtype H3N2 are more present during the winter season, but this year, they will not represent a high risk to the Mexican population because 70 percent of the entire population already have antibodies to combat the diseases.
“With the implementation of a vaccination campaign, that began on October 29, the Health Secretariat is looking to innoculate 80 percent of the vulnerable population, especially pregnant women, senior citizens, children under the age of five, and healthcare personnel, since they represent the most vulnerable segment of the population during the winter season,” said the Secretary.
The new vaccine will counter the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, the Influenza A virus subtype H3N2, and the B Influenza strain, Córdova added.
“We will produce 28 million trivalent vaccinations and distribute them throughout the country. We will only vaccinate those who really need to be vaccinated,” added the Secretary. |
