Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - At a meeting held today with Federal, State and Local authorities it was determined that as of October 1st the city of Puerto Vallarta will be on a heightened security alert status due to the upcoming Pan American Games.
Also in attendance at this meeting were representatives from the Secretaria de Salud and the SETAC GLBT Community Center Director Paco Arjona, who tried to stop the cancellation of their upcoming health fair at Plaza Lazaro Cardenas. They pleaded their case to no avail.
The authorities feel at this time, due to the large number of international athletes and media personnel arriving early for the games, that it is prudent to suspend any public gatherings were large crowds are expected.
Due to this decision the Secretaria de Salud and SETAC have postponed their October 6th health fair at Plaza Lazaro Cardenas. At present they are talking about re-scheduling for sometime in November. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
