Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The dewy Jaliscan humidity may be out of your control, but everyday hair care - from shampoo to the right brush type - can all contribute to unruly frizz. R Salon is a full-service salon located off Olas Altas in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood that offers traditional cut, color and style for hair, as well as massages, manicures and pedicures. 1. Don't shampoo as much.
Most shampoos contain an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate. Thought it's an effective cleanser, the ingredient can leave hair feeling dry and looking frizzy. If you can, try to shampoo at least every other day.
2. Don't towel-dry hair.
Using a regular towel to dry your hair will disturb the hair's cuticle. Instead, use a microfiber cloth to gently press and squeeze out the water from wet hair.
3. Be careful when combing wet hair.
When hair is wet, it's more susceptible to snapping and breaking. To prevent damage while detangling, use a wide-toothed comb instead of your regular hairbrush.
4. Make sure styling tools are hot, but not too hot.
When using a blow-dryer or other heated styling product, you want to heat your hair for the right effect, not burn it. If using a blow-dryer, test out the heat across the inner part of your arm before using it on your hair. If the heat's too hot for your arm, it's too hot and damaging for your hair.
5. Use a wooden brush.
Wooden brushes with boar bristles are a hair industry staple. Typical metal or ceramic brushes might only serve to damage the hair in combination with a hot blow-dryer.
6. Use the right styling products.
Employ effective anti-frizz fighting products to fight frizz. R Salon recommends Moroccanoil products, which contain argan oil that works to moisturize, tame and strengthen over-processed and/or damaged hair.
7. Resist the urge to play with hair!
Whether it's a nervous habit or your locks are just that soft, resist the urge to run your fingers through your hair. The more you touch it, the more frizz you create.
