Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - There's always so much going on in Puerto Vallarta and around Banderas Bay, it can be difficult to keep up with it all. Here's a look at some of this week's Puerto Vallarta news headlines and community announcements, plus a couple of this weekend's events that you won't want to miss.
No Way José! Season 5 Closing Party
Celebrate Father's Day at Tu Casa en Vallarta, No Way José! What better way to show Dad you care than by treating him to a memorable night of dining and entertainment? Join owners Julie Guerrero and José Alfredo as they close their 5th successful year of business as one of Puerto Vallarta's finest restaurants with a very special concert by 3 of the most romantic singers in Puerto Vallarta - José Alfredo, Alberto Mejía and Daniel Portela. On Sunday, June 15 at 8 pm, they will be singing to honor the memory of Francisco Javier Gonzalez Padilla, and to celebrate everyone we love - both those who are still here and those who have gone before us - in a sentimental show that should not be missed. $80 pesos covers the entertainment portion of the evening, which includes one national drink, but you'll want to stick around and enjoy the restaurant's special "clean out the fridge" menu, as Tu Casa en Vallarta will also be saying "hasta la vista" til October 15.

On May 28th, the Voluntary System of Puerto Vallarta DIF, chaired by Cecilia Ulloa Zámago, reopened the Department of Child Protection (DPI) facilities, which serve approximately one thousand local children and teens. Before the reinauguration, volunteers raised just over $80,000 pesos, which was spent on improvements to the masonry, paint for the interior and exterior of the property, building a half dome in the central courtyard, expanding the reception area, replacing the doors, remodeling the rest rooms, and the purchase of office supplies. Magaly Fregoso Ortiz, president of the System for Integral Family Development (DIF), thanked and acknowledged the work and dedication of those involved. "The reopening of DPI means closer ties with institutions that have turned the spotlight towards us and trust that the public policies implemented to address social phenomena that afflict children are run professionally and accurately," she said. The DPI houses agencies that offer prevention and education programs for children, teens and parents, such as child exploitation (ESI), Teen Pregnancy (PAIDEA), Child Labor (PROPADETIUM), and Psychosocial Risk Prevention (PREVERP) among others. The DPI facility is the second installation in the DIF System that is run by volunteers, the first was the Training Center located in the same complex.
