1. Opt for a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or greater and are labeled "broad-spectrum UV coverage," which means that it will protect against both UVA & UVB rays.

2. Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going outside. If you're in the sun for an extended period of time, reapply at least every 2 hours. Reapply more often if you are swimming or sweating.

2. The sun is strongest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Even though it's the middle of the day when most tend to be out and about, try to avoid direct sun exposure during these hours.

3. Select cosmetic products and contact lenses that offer UV protection. Fake a beautiful faux glow with an SPF-protecting shimmer bronzer.

4. Wear sun-protective accessories, such as cute wide-brimmed hats and oversized sunglasses. If the heat is bearable, donning long-sleeved shirts and long pants or skirts in dark fabrics is also advisable.

5. Make it a habit to schedule an annual skin check with your dermatologist. Most skin cancers are highly treatable if caught early on.
