Off-Road Racing Legend Hall Chasing History in His Hummer Nate Martinez - Motor Trend go to original
| Hall, who is now 70 years old, continues to race (and win) SCORE Baja events as well as other off-road races held throughout the U.S. | | Rod Hall, arguably the greatest off-road racer ever, is looking to make some more history at the 40th Anniversary SCORE International Tecate Baja 500 held in Ensenada, Mexico.
Hall will be looking to score a record 18th class win at the Baja 500 and will drive a stock-class, Rod Hall Racing Team Hummer H3 over the extremely rough Mexican desert.
Hall, who is now 70 years old, continues to race (and win) SCORE Baja events as well as other off-road races held throughout the U.S. He has won the longer Baja 1000 an amazing 19 times in various classes and is the only driver to have raced a four-wheeled vehicle at every Baja 1000 for the past 40 years.
Rod's son Chad will drive his own H3 in the race along with his brother Josh, who will take the helm of a race-prepped Hummer H2 SUT. Like their father, their trucks will be entered in the limited stock-class. The SCORE stock-class mandates that the vehicles used factory-issued frames, suspension designs and production-based engines while trying to survive the desert race.
Also making another appearance in a Hummer will be well-known NASCAR racer Robby Gordon, who will enter his Team Dakar USA Hummer H3 trophy truck. The bigger, more powerful truck placed 10th at this year's inaugural Central Europe Rally race last month and looks to continue its success in Mexico. Teams that enter trophy trucks like Gordon's H3 are able to upgrade almost all components for serious off road durability and as a result, are able to post faster overall race times.
The 40th Annual Baja 500 will take place May 30 to June 1. Competitors are given twenty hours to complete the epic off-road endurance race that features some of the most grueling terrain in Mexico. |
