Puerto Vallarta Events - Month of May in Review Shannon Beston - PVNN June 11, 2010
| May was a very full month of exciting events and activities here in Vallarta, with something for everyone to enjoy. | | The month of May has come and gone, but the memories will last a lifetime. It was a very full month of exciting events and activities here in Vallarta, with something for everyone to enjoy.
There was the very successful Reach for the Stars fundraiser for the SPCA de Vallarta and PEACE spay and neuter programs held on May 8th at a private beachfront villa.
The extremely popular Restaurant Week has now grown to 17 days from the original 7, so you can see how popular it is. This annual event is a perfect way to sample some of the many fantastic restaurants that Puerto Vallarta has to offer.
The participating restaurants offer some of their best menu items at amazing prices to entice locals and visitors alike. Needless to say it is every food lovers dream come true. This is very popular with the locals of Vallarta but is becoming an attraction for visitors as well as the vacation season extends further into summer.
The combination Restaurant Week and the great value season rates on all of the fabulous vacation rental properties from luxury condominiums to private villas is a perfect combination to draw in tourists from afar afield as China and Europe.
This May there were also many wonderful cultural events such as the Russian Ballet at the new Teatro Vallarta and the Fiestas de Mayo. The Russian State Ballet was the first sold out event at the new Vallarta theatre. The theatre quickly realized they had a hit sensation on their hands and invited the ballet to add new nights to their itinerary.
The last days of May saw the Orgullopor Jalisco a folkloric ballet arrive on Sunday May 30. The much lauded Vagina Monologues followed quickly on its heels for a one night only performance. The Vagina Monologues were performed in Spanish.
The Fiestas de Mayo included many spectacular live outdoor productions of dance and music as well as sculptors and painters. The fiestas de Mayo went through to the last day of May and ended with an amazing fireworks display.
May is the perfect time to enjoy dinner in one of the many fabulous restaurants located along the Malecón and ocean front and then stroll over to the main plaza or amphitheatre and watch one of the many free outdoor performances.
The weather is fabulous in May in Puerto Vallarta, slightly warmer then winter but still sunny and fabulous all the same leading into the lazy, hazy days of summer that June brings.
While June is often more quiet than May, it sees the arrival of many family vacationers and honey-mooners. The events calendar is still taking shape with the Mexican Junior Golf Open at El Tigre Golf Club on June 11, PEACE City Beautification Project June 13, 19 & 27th, the launch of El Arrayán summer cooking classes on June 14th and the Guadalajara Youth Symphony performance on June 19th, to name a few.
With these events and more, June promises to be another busy and interesting month in paradise.
