In 1988, Basilio Badillo was known for three restaurants, Roberto’s Puerto Nuevo, Pizza Joe and El Tucan. These restaurants were so successful that more restaurants and other businesses started to relocate to this area.
In the mid-90’s there were 12 restaurants on the 200 block of Basilio Badillo, so for years it was known as "Restaurant Row," or La Calle de los Cafés. Most of the restaurants eventually closed, and fine shops started to take over. As a result, the area has been known for some years as the best place in town to find high quality items, from folk art to fine art, home furnishings to jewelry and clothing.
So this fall, the following businesses decided to move forward with "The South Side Shuffle" a fun-filled event that gives everyone the opportunity to discover the treasures at twelve shops and galleries on Basilio Badillo and Constitución, while strolling (shuffling) from business to business on the south side of Puerto Vallarta.
• Banderas Bay Trading Company - Constitución #319 A • Galería Puerco Azul - Constitución #325 • Colección La Bohemia - Constitución #335 • Lucy's Cucu Cabaña - Basilio Badillo #295 • A Touch of Gold - Basilio Badillo #277-A • Galleria Dante - Basilio Badillo #269 • Galería Ambos - Basilio Badillo • Contempo Galería - Basilio Badillo #252 • Serafina - Basilio Badillo #260 • Ponciana - Basilio Badillo #252-A • Sirena - Basilio Badillo • Cassandra Shaw Jewelry - Basilio Badillo #276
Scheduled to take place every other Friday from 6-10 pm 'The South Side Shuffle,' are fun-filled evenings of cocktails, culture, conversation and music. Drinks will be provided at all of the establishments and musicians will provide entertainment while strolling up and down the street.
Since not all participating businesses are art galleries, The South Side Shuffle is not an 'Art Walk,' but more like an 'Open House.' The art galleries WILL be featuring individual artists at some of these events, but not all.
In addition to the South Side Shuffle's 12 participating businesses, there are also many other wonderful shops, restaurants and galleries in the vicinity that are not to be missed at these bi-weekly events.
