Los Angeles - A judge on Wednesday ordered a Hollywood TV producer held in jail pending a hearing over whether to grant him bail ahead of a possible extradition to Mexico, where he has been charged with murdering his wife.

Bruce Beresford-Redman, a former producer on the hit reality TV show "Survivor," fled Mexico for his home in Los Angeles after he was accused of choking his wife Monica to death in April at a luxury hotel in Cancun where they took their two children on holiday.

On Tuesday, U.S. officials arrested Beresford-Redman at his home in the affluent Los Angeles community of Rancho Palos Verdes, and they jailed him pending extradition to Mexico.

Judge Suzanne Segal on Wednesday ordered him confined to his cell until a November 29 hearing at which time she will determine whether Beresford-Redman can pay bail and be freed from jail, pending a full extradition proceeding.

Mexican officials have said employees and guests at the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancun heard and saw the two arguing while they were at the resort, and they documented scratch marks on Beresford-Redman's hands and behind his ear.

Beresford-Redman has said he is innocent.
