Mexico Tourism Secretary says 98% of foreign visitors come back.

Mexico City - On May 1st, the Mexican Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) said that 98 percent of foreign tourists who visited Mexico in 2009 visited the nation again in 2010.

Sectur also said that, according to the Tourist Profile and Satisfaction Level Study, 99 percent of foreign visitors to Mexico in 2010 recommended others to visit Mexican destinations.

Regarding domestic tourists, the Sectur noted that 98 percent of them also recommended others to visit Mexican destinations, including colonial buildings, archeological sites and beaches. In 2009, only 95 percent of domestic tourists made the recommendation.

The head of Sectur, Gloria Guevara Manzo, added that the positive results provided by the Tourist Profile and Satisfaction Level Study are evidence of the hard work and effort of the Sectur and the Mexican Tourist Promotion Council.

Guevara recognized that in order to improve the results and place Mexico as the fifth most important tourist destination in the world, it is necessary to coordinate all those involved in the tourism sector.

She said that the country is culturally and historically rich. “This is a country with a rich history and culture; so it seems obvious that tourists feel the need to visit us over and over,” she said.

Mexico has 40 Magic Towns and 10 Mexico Routes, which are special circuits that connect the entire Mexican territory, and colonial sites that show how culturally diverse Mexico is.

“Our country has a 3,000-year history. We are one of the nations with the largest biodiversity in the world. We also have the most beautiful beaches on this Earth, and we are No. 1 on the list of archeological reserves in the world with more than 30,000,” said the Secretary.

“We also have 110,00 historical monuments and we are No. 2 on the list of best luxury tourism destinations.”
