Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The four 2011 Pan American Games that were hosted in Puerto Vallarta from October 16-23 proved once again that our city has both the capacity and the infrastructure to host world-class events.
After the successful completion of the Pan American events in our city, Puerto Vallarta Mayor Salvador González Reséndiz said, "Our municipality showed that it has the ability and infrastructure needed to organize and host these first-class events."
For over a week, the Pan American Beach Volleyball Stadium saw the attendance of thousands of residents and visitors, who witnessed the participation of many countries, all wanting to return to their home country with one of the Pan American medals. The Stadium was built in the Hotel Zone on Playa Camarones, which is the only certified urban beach in our city.
Thousands of TV viewers followed the beach volleyball and the open water swimming events while at the same time appreciating the beaches of Puerto Vallarta. An extra reward for residents of Vallarta was the ability to enjoy the triathlon from close proximity.
The sailing awards ceremony took place Sunday evening at one of our city's most important sites, Los Arcos del Malecón (Malecón Arches.)
All Pan American Games activities ran smoothly and residents working as volunteers helped to make this event a huge success, showing once again why Puerto Vallarta has been named the Friendliest City in the World.
